Various festivals and auspicious days are celebrated at the ambur temple by conducting Vedic chanting, Homas, and pujas throughout the year.

kalpatharu day

January 1st, 2020

The first Kalpataru Day, 1 January 1886, was "an event of unusual consequence and meaning" in the life of Ramakrishna and his followers. Sri Ramakrishna was suffering from throat cancer at that time, and his health was declining.

The Master who was suffering from throat cancer felt better and came down to the garden for a little stroll. It was about three o'clock in the afternoon. Some thirty lay disciples were in the hall or sitting about under the trees. Sri Ramakrishna said to Girish (Ghosh), 'Well Girish, what have you seen in me, that you proclaim me before everybody as an Incarnation of God?' Girish was not the man to be taken by surprise. He knelt before the Master and said with folded hands, 'What can an insignificant person like myself say about the One whose glory even sages like Vyasa and Valmiki could not adequately measure?' The Master was profoundly moved. He said: 'What more shall I say? I bless you all. Be illumined!' He fell into a spiritual mood.

Hearing these words the devotees, one and all became overwhelmed with emotion. They rushed to him and fell at his feet. He touched them all, and each received an appropriate benediction. Each of them, at the touch of the Master, experienced ineffable bliss. Some laughed, some wept, some sat down to meditate, some began to pray. Some saw light, some had visions of their Chosen Ideals, and some felt within their bodies the rush of spiritual power.

Mahashivarathri

February 21 ,2020

It is a major festival and marks a remembrance of "overcoming darkness and ignorance" in life and the world. It is observed by remembering Lord Shiva and chanting prayers, fasting, and meditating on ethics and virtues such as honesty, non-injury to others, charity, forgiveness, and the discovery of Shiva. The devotees keep awake all night in our Ashramam offering worship to Lord Shiva by doing abishekam, chanting of Sri Rudram, conducting Sri Rudra Homa, singing of bhajans doing Archana to the Lord.

Guru Purnima

July 5th, 2020

The day of the full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima. Also known as Vyas Purnima, the day is celebrated in remembrance and veneration to sage Veda Vyasa. He is the Adi Guru of our Dharma, who classified the Vedas, wrote the eighteen Puranas and the Mahabharat.

On this day, the Guru and our entire Guru Parampara or lineage are offered Puja (worship)by the disciples. In following this important tradition, we the disciples also offer worship to our Guru and His Parampara on every Guru Purnima day.

Sarada Navarathri

October 17th - October 25th, 2020

This is the most popular and significant Navratri, also called Sri Sarada Navratri. It is celebrated during Ashwin month, the beginning of winter in September or October. This Navratri is widely celebrated across India and we at our Ashramam also give much importance to conducting Sri Chandi Homa during this period.  Sri Sarada Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Divine Mother Sri Durga and all Her other forms.

Navratri also signifies the slaying of demon Mahishasura by Goddess Durga and the tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadashami,  the day of victory of the Mother Durga. Special rituals are organized, and pujas are conducted during the period.

Deepavali -kali homa

November 14th, 2020

Kali Puja is celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month Kartik. It is celebrated on the same day as Diwali when other regions worship the goddess Lakshmi.

Kali Puja is celebrated to seek the help of the goddess in destroying evil and get her blessings for general happiness, health, wealth, and peace.

The puja rituals of Kali Puja take place at night with chanting of hymns, stotras, and conducting of Kali Homa.

kanda Sashti

November 20th, 2020

Skanda Sashti is a six-day festival to Skanda, the Lord of Religious Striving, also known as Murugan or Karttikeya. It begins on the day after the new moon in the month of Karttika (October/November) with pujas invoking His protection and grace. The festival honors Skanda’s receiving His lance, or vel, of spiritual illumination, and culminates in a victory celebration of spiritual light over darkness on the final day.

Skanda is a God of many attributes, depicted as six-faced and twelve-armed. The devotees hail this supreme warrior, the commander-in-chief of the great army of devas, or beings of light, a fearless defender of righteousness.
